The Deep Blue

I spent most of my life living in the Canadian prairies, no where near any water but for the green, algae filled, lakes an hours drive away (Although we did love them). Now in Port Stephens, I am spoiled as I am surrounded by ocean, dolphins, whales and every imaginable sea life. It is such a delight to see a turtle come up for air or a pod of dolphins playing in the waves. I am always bursting to paint the beautiful blues of the sea that now surround me.

Sea God

Proteus is an ancient god of the sea that is known to show up in my paintings of the sea.  When you see the protea flower, one of my favourites and his namesake, it can identify his form. Look for the King Protea flower crown in particular.  Proteus is said to have been made from the 'first matter' and so, can take any form he wishes, even the sea itself.
